Word Tip – Different ways to add special characters to text

Characters that can be displayed in Word have a code reference called “Unicode character code” with which they can be accessed. For instance, the Euro Symbol “€” has the code “20AC”. Word allows us to add special characters by typing out the Unicode character code, selecting it and pressing “Alt” + “X”. This will also work in reverse, i.e. If we actually have a special character displayed in Word and want to know its code, we can select it and press “Alt” + “X”.

Alternatively, we can manually insert a symbol by clicking on the “Insert” tab and selecting the “Symbols” option in the “Symbols” group. Clicking on “More Symbols” will then show the list of available symbols and their character code.
