Word Tip – Quickly adding accents to vowels

Using Word to write texts in other languages usually requires specific symbols and accents unique to the foreign language. The below table shows a quick way to add these accents to the word. In order for this to work, press the relevant keyboard shortcut, then release the keys and type one of the characters specified in brackets.

á, é, í, ó, ú, ý, ð, Á, É, Í, Ó, Ú, Ý, Ð CTRL + ‘ (works for a, e, i, o, u, d, A, E, I, O, U or D)
â, ê, î, ô, û, Â, Ê, Î, Ô, Û CTRL + SHIFT + ^ (works for a, e, i, o, u, A, E, I, O, U)
ã, ñ, õ, Ã, Ñ, Õ CTRL + SHIFT + ~ (only works for a, n, o, A, N or O)
ä, ë, ï, ö, ü, ÿ, Ä, Ë, Ï, Ö, Ü, Ÿ CTRL + SHIFT + : (works for a, e, i, o, u, y, A, E, I, O, U or Y)
